Cash Flow Forecast Template (Free, Australian)

2 min read

Most cash flow forecast templates are built for the US or the UK. They miss the payments that actually break Australian cash flow: the quarterly BAS, PAYG withholding and instalments, and the super guarantee.

This free cash flow forecast template is built for Australian businesses. It comes pre-labelled with those line items, the formulas are already in place, and it rolls forward on its own so a shortfall three months out shows up now.

What’s inside

  • A 12-month forecast (Australian financial year, July to June) with opening balance, cash in, cash out, net movement and closing balance
  • A 13-week rolling view for when cash is tight and timing matters
  • A forecast vs actual tab to track variance and sharpen the next forecast
  • Australian line items built in: GST/BAS, PAYG withholding, PAYG instalments, super guarantee, wages, rent, suppliers and loan repayments
  • Live formulas: enter your figures in the blue cells and every total, net movement and closing balance calculates automatically

Who is it for?

Finance managers and business owners at Australian SMEs who want to see when cash will run short before it happens, without paying for forecasting software.

How to use it

  1. Download the Excel template
  2. Enter your opening bank balance and expected cash in and cash out for each period
  3. Read the closing balance row: a negative number is a forecast shortfall, and the month to act on before it arrives
  4. Line up your GST/BAS and PAYG rows with your ATO lodgement cycle so the big payments land in the right month

The honest limit of any forecast

A forecast predicts a shortfall. It does not prevent one. A spreadsheet has no control over what leaves your bank account between updates, so the moment a team spends outside the plan, the forecast is wrong. Closing that gap is what Budgetly does: pre-approved budgets enforced at the card, so unplanned spending cannot happen and reality matches the forecast.
