Press Release

Former Xero executive Ian Boyd joins Budgetly as Chief Revenue Officer

PRESS RELEASE

Brisbane, Australia, 23 October 2026

Appointment strengthens Budgetly’s focus on helping Australian SMEs and their advisors control spend before money moves.

Budgetly, the real-time spend control system for Australian SMEs, has appointed former Xero General Manager Ian Boyd as Chief Revenue Officer.

Boyd joins Budgetly from GoCardless, where he was General Manager, ANZ. Before that, he spent eight years at Xero, most recently as General Manager, Partnerships, APAC.

In his new role, Boyd will lead Budgetly’s revenue organisation across go-to-market, marketing and partner growth. His focus will include expanding Budgetly’s work with accounting firms, bookkeepers and business advisors.

The appointment comes as Budgetly passes 20,000 users and continues to grow its role in helping Australian businesses replace reimbursements, shared cards and manual spend processes with real-time budgets, approvals and audit-ready accountability.

Budgetly has processed more than $1.5 billion in payment volume across more than 2 million transactions. User numbers have grown 70% in the past year, while customer retention remains at 99%.

The company’s March 2026 CFO Survey of 106 finance leaders also found that 49.1% spend 40% or more of their team’s time on manual tasks. While 74.5% of respondents were interested in using AI for finance automation, only 25.5% were using AI-enabled tools.

“Australian SMEs need control before money moves, not another report explaining where it went,” said Simon Lenoir, CEO of Budgetly.

“Ian understands the role accountants and bookkeepers play in helping businesses improve their financial operations. His experience at Xero and GoCardless gives him a clear view of what advisors need from the tools they recommend. He’ll help us make Budgetly’s value easier to see, easier to adopt and easier to build into everyday workflows.”

Boyd said his eight years at Xero working with accountants and bookkeepers showed him how much finance work still happens after the transaction.

“Accountants and bookkeepers often spend too much time cleaning up spend data after the fact,” said Boyd.

“Receipts are missing. Transactions need to be explained. Shared cards make it difficult to know who spent what. Budgetly moves control earlier in the process. Spend is approved against a budget before it happens, and receipts are captured at the point of purchase.”

“That gives finance teams cleaner records and gives advisors more time to focus on useful financial advice.”

Boyd will also support Budgetly’s partner program, which helps accounting firms, bookkeepers and business advisors improve the way their clients manage company spend.

“Good advisors should not have to spend their time chasing receipts and reconstructing transactions,” Boyd said. “They should be able to help clients make better decisions with clearer information.”

Boyd is available for interview on:

  • What accountants and bookkeepers now expect from the software they recommend to clients
  • Why Australian SMEs still rely on reimbursements and shared cards
  • The cost of manual spend processes for lean finance teams
  • Why interest in AI automation is growing faster than actual adoption
  • How businesses can give teams more autonomy while keeping control of spend
