Embrace Change at Budgetly

At Budgetly, our values aren’t just words on paper — they shape how we work together and how we deliver value to our customers. At our recent company offsite, we recognised team members who truly embody our values day in and day out.

In this edition of our Buddies Value Spotlight Blog series, we’re highlighting John Masina, Senior Onboarding Specialist, winner of the Embrace Change Award 2025. Through his work in Onboarding & Implementation, he has shown how adaptability and ownership make a real difference for our customers and culture.

Q&A with John Masina, Senior Onboarding Specialist

1. What does Embrace Change mean to you personally, and how do you see it show up in your day-to-day work?

"Embrace Change for me is as much a call to action as it is a value. It’s a directive that guides decision making and the actions taken by myself and my team to best achieve outcomes and adapt to the ever-changing landscape of our industry.

In Onboarding & Implementation, one size fits all does not exist. We are in constant discovery with clients to understand the best course of action for an implementation and adapt accordingly to achieve the best outcomes."

2. Can you share a recent example where you demonstrated this value at work?

"Our team is in constant liaison with clients to firstly onboard them to Budgetly, then implement our product to ensure a seamless changeover to our platform.

To try and streamline the process, we had some structural changes that required a more hands-on approach regarding KYB requirements for clients. It meant more work and more ownership of tasks, but it gives Budgetly greater control over the quality of the onboarding process."

3. Why do you think this value is important for Budgetly’s culture and success?

"Change is inevitable — you can’t fight it or resist, you can only move with it and adapt. I think embracing change says as much about Budgetly’s attitude as it does our culture.

We don’t dig our heels in, we identify opportunities, and if they outweigh the roadblocks, we move. It’s this kind of culture and attitude that I believe are keys to success in any endeavour, and it’s great to be a part of a company that has the same vision.”

4. What advice would you give to someone new joining Budgetly about living this value?

"This value is all about ownership — taking stock of what we can do, assessing what’s occurring around us (whether in the marketplace or the workplace), and acting accordingly.”

5. Outside of work, how does this value show up in your life?

"After hours, I find myself at a boxing gym for both fitness and enjoyment. I also see it as a microcosm for life. One thing you learn really fast is that nothing is going to go the way you planned — and if you freeze the moment it doesn’t, you’ll find yourself in trouble.

You have to accept and adapt. Today you might have come out on top, but doing the same tomorrow doesn’t necessarily guarantee success. Embrace change."

Closing Reflection

John’s story shows how embracing change is more than a value — it’s a mindset that drives adaptability, resilience, and customer success. By staying curious, taking ownership, and being willing to adjust, our team continues to deliver impact in an ever-changing industry.
